Hello, I’m a very handsome young adult male Standard Poodle X Golden Retriever mix named Archibald. My foster family says that I am one of the sweetest dogs they’ve EVER met!! They also say I’m a “Velcro” dog which is totally true because I want to be with my people 24/7. As a matter of fact, although I am usually quiet, I will whine/bark if I am left alone or excited so hopefully my new family will be home with me most, if not all, the time!
I am good with cats, kids, and other dogs. My favorite activities are chasing, wrestling, and playing with other dogs (or by myself), gnawing on chew toys, and playing with puzzle toys. Potty training is coming along if I can stay on a consistent schedule, but I quickly learned commands like “sit”, “no”, “wait”, and “Archie come here”. Additionally, I am a great listener and will stop doing something if my family says “no” …especially if it’s followed with some loving praise! That said, one should beware that once they start petting me, they can’t stop! Hee, hee!! Truth is, all I really want to do is please my people!! We are working on crate training and sometimes it takes me about 20 minutes to stop telling you how much I miss you (bark bark!). We are also working on leash walking. So, I will go potty on a leash, but taking me for walks is another story. I tend to wander, pull and get very excited. I am really hoping my forever family is just as excited as I am to learn how to go on nice walks on the leash. I promise that I am a very smart boy and will do my best!
I have a working-dog personality and I LOVE attention all I need now is a fur-ever home with a patient, unconditionally loving family who will NEVER give up on me. **Grooming - this dog's coat may have been neglected before arriving at Underdog and it can sometimes take months to get their coat healthy as poodles and poodle mixes require daily brushing. Grooming appointments occur every 3 months and cost on average of $150 per appointment. Adopters should be prepared for such expenses. Underdog Rescue cannot guarantee the non-shedding or hypoallergenic qualities of this dog.
Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders. Each animal's bio is based on our experience of the animal within our care, an educated guess based on physical characteristics, temperament and information shared. Some of the animals come from situations where they are lacking experience in a home and confidence in humans. In turn, they require another companion dog and/or a fenced in yard in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a particular dog whose bio states those needs and do not currently have them, please understand that your home might not be the right fit. ADOPTION EVENTS:
Adoption events are updated as the foster home RSVP's to attend. Check back for updates on which events they will be attending. Please understand that all of our pets are in volunteer foster homes and sometimes "life" happens and the foster family cannot make it to their scheduled adoption event. If you are traveling from a far distance to meet a specific animal, please understand we cannot guarantee event attendance. You may wish to consider applying and setting up a private appointment. Private appointments are only scheduled after an application is submitted and approved.
ADOPTION PROCEDURE:
FOSTER CARE:
All of our animals are fostered in individual homes or doggie daycare facilities. While they are in our care, they are part of our families and given lots of love. We work on training, crate-training and socialization prior to adoption. Each animal's behavior is evaluated and we have a sense of its temperament and personality. We look for adopters who will give each animal the wonderful life and permanent home that he or she deserves. NUTRITION:
Nutrition is vital to the rehabilitation and life-long health of our pets. All of our foster animals are fed a premium diet such as NutriSource, Canidae, Orijen, Nature's Variety, Fromm, Pure Vita, Stella and Chewy's, Primal, or balanced raw diet. All adopters are required to continue providing premium diets for the life of the animal.
