Hi there!  My name is Wilson and I am an active and smart dog that is looking for someone to take me on adventures! I am a very active dog and love to play. I enjoy going for walks, playing fetch (I am super good at fetch!!) and playing with tennis balls. I also play with stuffed toys, but sometimes have accidents because I play too hard. A forever home with a big toybox of Wilson size toys would be my dream!

I do have a lot of energy so while I enjoy kids, I would do best in a home with older kids that can handle my exuberance. I’m a high energy guy and might accidently knock a small kid over. I also have a bad habit of jumping on people when I am excited, I try not to, but am so excited for some attention! If a forever family took me to dog school where I could learn not only the basics and how to be polite, but I would also love it if you taught me some tricks!

My house manners are great – I know how to go potty outside and am crate trained. I might complain for a couple of minutes when you put me in my kennel but I calm down quickly. I have nice leash manners, though sometimes I pull – I am a strong boy and love going on adventure walks. There are so many things to see and smell – and I am so happy to be out and about. I don’t need a fenced yard in my forever home because I even go potty on my leashed walks.

I’m good with all dog friendly dogs though sometimes I may come across as a little too friendly for some dogs. I would do fine in a home with no other dog but I think another dog in the home would help me to learn how to be a truly fine house dog.

Did I mention that I am missing an eye?  I think I forgot to mention it because it doesn’t slow me down or bother me at all. Sometimes I like to pretend I am a pirate with an eye patch – Aaargh! I’m just fun that way!

I have met cats and it’s best if the cat is knowledgeable about how us dogs operate.  Dog savvy cats are the best!

I am such a fun dog!  I am learning all about living in a house and boy do I love it!  My forever family will need to help me learn the rules of their house so that I know what rules to respect and what is OK to do.  Now, I just wait and hope for my forever family to come for me very soon!

Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders.  Each animal's bio is based on our experience of the animal within our care, an educated guess based on physical characteristics, temperament and information shared. Some of the animals come from situations where they are lacking experience in a home and confidence in humans. In turn, they require another companion dog and/or a fenced in yard in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a  particular dog whose bio states those needs and do not currently have them, please understand that your home might not be the right fit.  Please use the filter on our Adoptable Dogs page to find the perfect match for your home.

ADOPTION EVENTS:

Adoption events are updated as the foster home RSVP's to attend. Check back for updates on which events they will be attending. Please understand that all of our pets are in volunteer foster homes and sometimes "life" happens and the foster family cannot make it to their scheduled adoption event. If you are traveling from a far distance to meet a specific animal, please understand we cannot guarantee event attendance. You may wish to consider applying and setting up a private appointment. Private appointments are only scheduled after an application is submitted and approved.

ADOPTION PROCEDURE:

The first step in our process is to complete an online adoption application on our website:
Note: In most circumstances Underdog Rescue will only adopt within 60 miles of Minneapolis, MN.
All of our foster animals can be seen by appointment with an approved adoption application. Contact us at http://www.underdogrescuemn.com/contact-us/ if you have further questions.

FOSTER CARE:

All of our animals are fostered in individual homes or doggie daycare facilities. While they are in our care, they are part of our families and given lots of love. We work on training, crate-training and socialization prior to adoption. Each animal's behavior is evaluated and we have a sense of its temperament and personality. We look for adopters who will give each animal the wonderful life and permanent home that he or she deserves. If you have an interest and ability to be a foster home, please visit our website  www.underdogrescuemn.com/foster-applications  and fill out a foster application.

NUTRITION:

Nutrition is vital to the rehabilitation and life-long health of our pets.  All of our foster animals are fed a premium diet such as NutriSource, Canidae, Orijen, Nature's Variety, Fromm, Pure Vita, Stella and Chewy's, Primal, or balanced raw diet.  All adopters are required to continue providing premium diets for the life of the animal.
