Hello, I’m Tootie, a very beautiful Yorkie who is social, curious and loves to be wherever the action is. I have not met any cats or kids, but I love spending time with humans and other dogs. In fact, I live with a senior dog with whom I’m very loving, patient, and understanding…I don’t even mind when she climbs on me or sleeps next to me. I do get scared in new places, I am still getting used to being picked up, and I may bark at men in hats or hoodies, but I have lived with men and have been fine with them. All that said, I am a very happy, friendly, attention-motivated girl who will eat any treat I can sink my teeth into…I guess it’s safe to say that I’m food motivated too!! Hee, hee!! Anyway, in addition to eating, I enjoy playing with small rope toys and exploring the yard, I have been working on my leash experience so I don't need a fenced yard, but sure would love it to explore!

I learn routines quickly especially when treats are involved, and you’ll never have to wonder if someone unknown enters the home because I will definitely let you know. However, once I’ve met them and have determined my family is safe, I will usually calm down. I will also let you know if someone or something outside piques my interest or how unhappy I am about being in that cave you humans call a ‘kennel/crate’. After all, who likes being left alone am I right…let alone in a box…I may even potty in there. Speaking of potty, I do my business outside and on potty pads but I may have an accident if I get too excited or anxious and when I first came to live with foster mom, I tended to urinate on my food dish when I was just about finished eating…I know, NOT my finest moments but this has not happened recently, so I think it was just because I was nervous about being in a new place.

Anyway, my life’s pretty great right now but I have always dreamed of a fur-ever home with a patient family who will love me unconditionally and NEVER give up on me. I am a very sweet girl who simply wants a fur-ever home that’s filled with love and LOTS of treats!! Will YOU be my fur-ever family? I promise I’m worth it! Love, Tootie

Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders.  Each animal's bio is based on our experience of the animal within our care, an educated guess based on physical characteristics, temperament and information shared. Some of the animals come from situations where they are lacking experience in a home and confidence in humans. In turn, they require another companion dog and/or a fenced in yard in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a  particular dog whose bio states those needs and do not currently have them, please understand that your home might not be the right fit.  Please use the filter on our Adoptable Dogs page to find the perfect match for your home.

ADOPTION EVENTS:

Adoption events are updated as the foster home RSVP's to attend. Check back for updates on which events they will be attending. Please understand that all of our pets are in volunteer foster homes and sometimes "life" happens and the foster family cannot make it to their scheduled adoption event. If you are traveling from a far distance to meet a specific animal, please understand we cannot guarantee event attendance. You may wish to consider applying and setting up a private appointment. Private appointments are only scheduled after an application is submitted and approved.

ADOPTION PROCEDURE:

The first step in our process is to complete an online adoption application on our website:
Note: In most circumstances Underdog Rescue will only adopt within 60 miles of Minneapolis, MN.
All of our foster animals can be seen by appointment with an approved adoption application. Contact us at http://www.underdogrescuemn.com/contact-us/ if you have further questions.

FOSTER CARE:

All of our animals are fostered in individual homes or doggie daycare facilities. While they are in our care, they are part of our families and given lots of love. We work on training, crate-training and socialization prior to adoption. Each animal's behavior is evaluated and we have a sense of its temperament and personality. We look for adopters who will give each animal the wonderful life and permanent home that he or she deserves. If you have an interest and ability to be a foster home, please visit our website  www.underdogrescuemn.com/foster-applications  and fill out a foster application.

NUTRITION:

Nutrition is vital to the rehabilitation and life-long health of our pets.  All of our foster animals are fed a premium diet such as NutriSource, Canidae, Orijen, Nature's Variety, Fromm, Pure Vita, Stella and Chewy's, Primal, or balanced raw diet.  All adopters are required to continue providing premium diets for the life of the animal.
