Hello, my name is Henry. I am a very handsome, energetic and goofy adult male Standard Poodle who immediately attached myself to foster mom and now I follow her everywhere! Hee, hee!! Truth is, I am one of those guys who loves to be doted on and I think foster mom loves having a shadow as precious as I am so it’s a win-win! I also whole-heartedly believe that I am a lap dog so I jump on the couch and snuggle in next to mom and the other dogs.

As you can tell, I have a big personality, am incredibly affectionate and love getting as much affection as possible…you know, like belly rubs and hugs (hint, hint), but I also love playing with squeaky toys and balls, chewing on bully sticks, and giving gentle little nibble-kisses! I do best with some physical or mental stimulation everyday - it is important to keep a smart and energetic dog like me busy. Plus it gives us more time to spend together - an exercise routine for me would be awesome!

I have not met any cats and I’m not crazy about a lot of commotion, but I am good with kids and other dogs. If there are kids in my forever home, it would be best if they are older as I sometimes get mouthy when I play. Foster mom is always sticking a toy in my mouth so I don't chew on things I shouldn't. I am doing my best so hopefully my forever family has some good toys!  That said, I prefer dogs who are about my size, and I prefer to meet them one at a time otherwise I get anxious. I do fine with my foster fur sibs but when I went to the groomer, I didn’t like having so many other dogs there. Speaking of grooming…I am a very patient boy! When I first got here, I had several mats in my beautiful coat and, for what seemed like an eternity (hee, hee), I stood still while mom cut them away from my WHOLE body…I know right…I clearly have the patience of a saint!! Ok…full disclosure, I will stay still for as long as someone wants to touch me LOL! I really am quite a gentleman and here’s a perfect example: When mom’s trying to get all of us ready to go for a walk, my three fur sibs are causing all sorts of chaos while I…amazingly tolerant Henry…simply sit there (secretly rolling my eyes at the others) and wait until we walk out the door!

I don't hang out in my kennel often (it's really only for sleeping and hiding MY toys), but I'll go in without a problem especially if I get a busy bone!   I  am potty trained and sometimes just go outside to romp around the yard.  I am smart too, not only do I know commands like “down”, “sit”, and “go potty”, but I do well with the leash, and I even picked up a few commands by simply observing interactions between mom and the other dogs. I suppose I should mention that I growled at one of my little 10lb foster sibs once. I know, not one of my finest moments but in my defense, I was trying to eat my food…did you catch that ‘MYYY’ food! Hee, hee!!

Anyway, I really am a very sweet boy who is simply looking for a furever home with a fenced yard and a family who will love me unconditionally and NEVER give up on me! I really hope that YOU will be my family because something inside me says we’re soulmates who are destined to experience this enormous world together!! I promise that not only am I totally worth it, but I will even let you give me a massage before bed…now seriously, how generous am I!?! Love, Henry

Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders.  Each animal's bio is based on our experience of the animal within our care, an educated guess based on physical characteristics, temperament and information shared. Some of the animals come from situations where they are lacking experience in a home and confidence in humans. In turn, they require another companion dog and/or a fenced in yard in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a  particular dog whose bio states those needs and do not currently have them, please understand that your home might not be the right fit.  Please use the filter on our Adoptable Dogs page to find the perfect match for your home.

**Grooming - this dog's coat may have been neglected before arriving at Underdog and it can sometimes take months to get their coat healthy as poodles and poodle mixes require daily brushing.  Grooming appointments occur every 3 months and cost on average of $150 per appointment. Adopters should be prepared for such expenses. Underdog Rescue cannot guarantee the non-shedding or hypoallergenic qualities of this dog.

ADOPTION EVENTS:

Adoption events are updated as the foster home RSVP's to attend. Check back for updates on which events they will be attending. Please understand that all of our pets are in volunteer foster homes and sometimes "life" happens and the foster family cannot make it to their scheduled adoption event. If you are traveling from a far distance to meet a specific animal, please understand we cannot guarantee event attendance. You may wish to consider applying and setting up a private appointment. Private appointments are only scheduled after an application is submitted and approved.

ADOPTION PROCEDURE:

The first step in our process is to complete an online adoption application on our website:
Note: In most circumstances Underdog Rescue will only adopt within 60 miles of Minneapolis, MN.
All of our foster animals can be seen by appointment with an approved adoption application. Contact us at http://www.underdogrescuemn.com/contact-us/ if you have further questions.

FOSTER CARE:

All of our animals are fostered in individual homes or doggie daycare facilities. While they are in our care, they are part of our families and given lots of love. We work on training, crate-training and socialization prior to adoption. Each animal's behavior is evaluated and we have a sense of its temperament and personality. We look for adopters who will give each animal the wonderful life and permanent home that he or she deserves. If you have an interest and ability to be a foster home, please visit our website  www.underdogrescuemn.com/foster-applications  and fill out a foster application.

NUTRITION:

Nutrition is vital to the rehabilitation and life-long health of our pets.  All of our foster animals are fed a premium diet such as NutriSource, Canidae, Orijen, Nature's Variety, Fromm, Pure Vita, Stella and Chewy's, Primal, or balanced raw diet.  All adopters are required to continue providing premium diets for the life of the animal.
