**SPECIAL NEEDS: Cowboy is blind and has Cushing's disease related diabetes so he needs insulin twice a day.
Hello, my name is Cowboy. I am a ruggedly handsome and incredibly sweet a bit feisty senior male Chihuahua. As with humans, age often brings with it certain health conditions in us doggies. For example, in addition to being blind, I have a condition called Cushing’s disease which occurs when the adrenal glands produce too much cortisol. The excess cortisol in my little body means I also have diabetes, so I need insulin twice a day. Now, don’t you worry your precious little head because my conditions do not hinder my zest for life at all…even being blind, I am able to navigate around the house. That said, my family does need to be diligent about ensuring there are no safety issues like stairs that I could stumble down etc.
I am usually quiet unless someone comes to the house then it is, of course, MY job to alert the family that we have visitors. Foster mom doesn’t mind my alerts though because she says I have a “quiet, odd little bark”. I am super smart, and I know what “potty” and “come” mean but when it comes to potty, leash, and crate training, here’s the scoop: I use an X-pen rather than a kennel; I don’t have much leash experience because I’m very bow-legged and probably wouldn’t make it far on a walk; and I will do my business inside and outside… I will even go on a potty pad if foster mom sits me on it and says “potty”, and if we go somewhere out of the house mom puts a belly band on me, so I don’t have any embarrassing accidents.
I may not be able to see things, but my hearing and smell are fantastic! My favorite activities include eating, snuggling, eating, snuggling, eating, snuggling…you see where I’m going with this right!?! Hee, hee!! I will also occasionally play with a soft ball by tossing it in the air then searching for it, but my favorite place is with my people, and I LOVE when they’re home with me all the time! Anyway, I have not met any cats and since I’m just a little guy weighing in at a whoppin’ 3 pounds, I should not be in a home with small children. I am, however, good with other dogs and I will even crawl in bed with them if given the chance! Tee, hee, hee!!
I may be tiny, but I have a heart bigger than the universe and it’s full of love and sweetness that I dream of sharing with a patient fur-ever family who will love me unconditionally and NEVER give up on me. Are you ready to welcome an angel like me into your life because I am more than ready to begin my life with YOU!! Love, Cowboy
