Hello, my name is Spanky. I am a loving, loyal, and high-energy young adult male English/Bluetick Coonhound mix who doesn’t like loud noise, so I don’t think young kids are a good fit for me. That said, I have done fine with older kids who are respectful of me and my space. I am a curious one and slow to trust when it comes to meeting new people but I’m always watching and learning so with each passing day I am becoming more confident. I am even potty, crate, and leash trained so you can clearly see that I’m very smart!

I am always respectful of cats, and I hope to have a confident doggie companion at my new home who will help me learn the ropes…that is, of course, as long as they don’t steal all the affection from my people! Hee, Hee!! I am a playfully silly boy who frequently runs into things, so I like to think of myself as clumsily athletic!! Hee, hee!! Foster mom says I’m a bit “shifty” too because I like to be sneaky then play all innocent when she’s figured me out! For example, I love to investigate what interesting (and maybe tasty) things are waiting for me on the kitchen counter when my human turns their back…then I swiftly act as though nobody saw me! I told ya I’m silly!! Anyway, I also enjoy chewing on hard bones/antlers, playing with cloth/squeaky toys, running super-fast around a fenced yard whilst my ears flap in the wind, and I like to gather all the blankets I can find so I can build a nice cozy nest where I, and all the toys I’ve hoarded, can relax. By the way, I should mention that I love looking out the windows and being outside whenever possible too, but I have learned that cuddling on the couch can only occur indoors, so I’m faced with a bit of a conundrum! Hee, hee!!

I really am a sweet boy who not only is eager to learn and please my family, but I give the best hugs and kisses EVER and I would love to shower YOU with them. If you promise to love me unconditionally, NEVER give up on me, and commit to helping me build my confidence then I would love to have you as my furever family. I promise that I am totally worth it and I will let you give me belly rubs anytime you want! Love, Spanky

Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders.  Each animal's bio is based on our experience of the animal within our care, an educated guess based on physical characteristics, temperament and information shared. Some of the animals come from situations where they are lacking experience in a home and confidence in humans. In turn, they require another companion dog and/or a fenced in yard in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a    particular dog whose bio states those needs and do not currently have them, please understand that your home might not be the right fit.  Please use the filter on our Adoptable Dogs page to find the perfect match for your home.

ADOPTION EVENTS:

Adoption events are updated as the foster home RSVP's to attend. Check back for updates on which events they will be attending. Please understand that all of our pets are in volunteer foster homes and sometimes "life" happens and the foster family cannot make it to their scheduled adoption event. If you are traveling from a far distance to meet a specific animal, please understand we cannot guarantee event attendance. You may wish to consider applying and setting up a private appointment. Private appointments are only scheduled after an application is submitted and approved.

ADOPTION PROCEDURE:

The first step in our process is to complete an online adoption application on our website:
Note: In most circumstances Underdog Rescue will only adopt within 60 miles of Minneapolis, MN.
All of our foster animals can be seen by appointment with an approved adoption application. Contact us at http://www.underdogrescuemn.com/contact-us/ if you have further questions.

FOSTER CARE:

All of our animals are fostered in individual homes or doggie daycare facilities. While they are in our care, they are part of our families and given lots of love. We work on training, crate-training and socialization prior to adoption. Each animal's behavior is evaluated and we have a sense of its temperament and personality. We look for adopters who will give each animal the wonderful life and permanent home that he or she deserves. If you have an interest and ability to be a foster home, please visit our website  www.underdogrescuemn.com/foster-applications  and fill out a foster application.

NUTRITION:

Nutrition is vital to the rehabilitation and life-long health of our pets.  All of our foster animals are fed a premium diet such as NutriSource, Canidae, Orijen, Nature's Variety, Fromm, Pure Vita, Stella and Chewy's, Primal, or balanced raw diet.  All adopters are required to continue providing premium diets for the life of the animal.
