Hello, hello, hello! My name is Bradford and I am a sweet, sociable boy looking for a happy, loving family that loves to cuddle 🙂

First thing to know about me? I love exploring. At my current foster home, I enjoy following my other dog friends around the house to see what they are up to. Who knows what kind of fun stuff they may be doing?? In fact, I like being around other canines so much that I need to be in a house with another dog. Right now, I’m not sure how I would feel about bigger dogs since I’ve only met friends that are more my size. Similarly, I haven’t gotten to meet any cats yet, so I don’t know yet how I would react to being with them. For me, the key with being around other animals are slow, controlled interactions so I can get used to them in my space. I’m definitely friendly, but I just like to know who I’m dealing with when I meet them!

When I’m not with other dogs, I am a BIG outdoors guy. I like to roll around in the grass and enjoy the sun warming me up when it’s nice out. I’m currently working on leash walking and my foster mom says that I am really improving! However, I prefer a good backyard, which is why have a fenced yard is a must for my future family. I am also working on potty training. I will say that when I am on a consistent schedule, I’m usually pretty good about knowing when and where to go! Truth be told, I like the outdoors so much that when I’m in the car, sometimes I will even try to get a look out the window to see what’s happening around me! That’s why my foster mom says that it would be smart for me to be in a crate or hooked up to a harness so I don’t go flying around.

At home, I ADORE treats and toys. I will play with almost anything that you give me, but my favorite toys are the ones that can dispense treats, especially if it’s freeze-dried beef liver. Literally heaven right there. You can use that to reward me for good behavior or help teach me new tricks, although I’ll let you know now that I already know the command “Come!” I am also very much a cuddler and would prefer that my future family let me sleep with them in the bed. I’m just a little Frenchie so I promise I won’t even take up that much room! Since I am such a family person, I do get sad when my people have to leave. I’m pretty good when I’m crated, but I can get talkative (barks) when my family leaves. Speaking of family, I am great with people of all ages, so if you have a young kid, we will get along great!

When I’m at the house, the TV can sometimes be a lot for me. Loud noises and commotions can definitely be scary! Occasionally this means I may start shaking, but if you turn the TV off, I’ll calm down quickly. Along with that, I’ll be honest, I don’t love looking at myself in the mirror. So, I would rather that wherever I go doesn’t have full length mirrors for me to stare at myself in all day.

Overall, I’m very easy going and want the chance to be with a family that wants to spend lots of quality time with me and let me explore the world along with them!

Some of our dogs are obtained from commercial breeders where they spent their lives getting comfort from their canine friends. Others have come from various situations where they are lacking confidence in humans. In turn, most require another companion dog in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a particular dog, and do not currently have a dog residing with you, please understand that your home might not be the right fit for many of our dogs.

Bulldogs are a member of the Brachycephalic breed and therefore have a host of health issues that may arise.  Because these dogs are new into our rescue, health issues in the future may arise that we are not aware of.  Some of these issues are allergies, eye issues, yeast infections, interdigital cysts, slipped disks in their back, breathing problems, among a host of others that can occur at any time or when seasons change. While breed experience is not required, we encourage you to thoroughly research the breed and its financial, medical, and environmental needs to be sure the breed is a good fit for you and your family.  It is estimated that the average bulldog owner spends $2,000 per year on medical needs.  In addition to normal pre adoption surgeries, Bradford also had surgery on his nares and soft palate to improve the quality of his breathing. This is reflected within his adoption fee.

Bulldogs are one of the most expensive dogs to own, maintain, and rescue and our adoption fees reflect such expenses.  The application process for bulldogs usually moves quite quickly as they are a popular breed, so we ask that adopters do research and be prepared for adoption at the time you submit your application.  They are happy, goofy, playful characters and we are excited you are taking the first steps into rescuing one!

This dog requires an application fee.  This fee must be paid within 24 hours or your application will be considered void.    We will not review or contact applicants that have not completed the payment portion. Bulldog Applications will be responded to within 5 business days, after receipt of the application fee.  Please understand that paying the fee does not guarantee you will be approved to adopt the bulldog. Our goal is place bulldogs in homes that are suited for their individual needs. You may be willing and able to provide a great home, but if it doesn’t meet the specific needs of the bulldog, we will not approve your application.

ADOPTION EVENTS:

Adoption events are updated as the foster home RSVP's to attend. Check back for updates on which events they will be attending. Please understand that all of our pets are in volunteer foster homes and sometimes "life" happens and the foster family cannot make it to their scheduled adoption event. If you are traveling from a far distance to meet a specific animal, please understand we cannot guarantee event attendance. You may wish to consider applying and setting up a private appointment. Private appointments are only scheduled after an application is submitted and approved.

ADOPTION PROCEDURE:

The first step in our process is to complete an online adoption application on our website:
Note: In most circumstances Underdog Rescue will only adopt within 60 miles of Minneapolis, MN.
All of our foster animals can be seen by appointment with an approved adoption application. Contact us at http://www.underdogrescuemn.com/contact-us/ if you have further questions.

FOSTER CARE:

All of our animals are fostered in individual homes or doggie daycare facilities. While they are in our care, they are part of our families and given lots of love. We work on training, crate-training and socialization prior to adoption. Each animal's behavior is evaluated and we have a sense of its temperament and personality. We look for adopters who will give each animal the wonderful life and permanent home that he or she deserves. If you have an interest and ability to be a foster home, please visit our website  www.underdogrescuemn.com/foster-applications  and fill out a foster application.

NUTRITION:

Nutrition is vital to the rehabilitation and life-long health of our pets.  All of our foster animals are fed a premium diet such as NutriSource, Canidae, Orijen, Nature's Variety, Fromm, Pure Vita, Stella and Chewy's, Primal, or balanced raw diet.  All adopters are required to continue providing premium diets for the life of the animal.
