Hi, my name is Sophie. I’m a young adult and I’m looking for my forever home.  I’m a Miniature Schnauzer, about 11 pounds….  but don’t let my size fool you, my foster Mom says I am a pint-size protector! I really like being right by your side.  My schnauzer breed gives me supersonic hearing (ha ha) and while I might have a cauliflower ear it doesn't affect my hearing. When I first came into my foster home; I was really scared. I had no idea what stairs, glass, or entryways were. Thanks to my foster sister I have learned we don't walk into the glass patio door… yes, I did that frequently. I really love being around the other dogs in my foster home and will need another dog in my forever home to continue to show me how things work in this amazing new world. They other dogs in my house are trying to show me how to play with toys or frolic in the backyard, so far I just like finding a shady spot and take a snooze.

I recently have accomplished great things - stairs are amazing! I can do it! I have learned that beds are AMAZING and you can find me sharing one with the other dogs in the house. I also enjoy chewing on my dog rope and my nylabone. And that leash walking thing - my foster mom says I have great potential with more practice. For now, I do require a fenced yard. With the guidance of the other dogs in the house, I am learning how to walk on a leash. We have started going for daily walks and I really enjoy sniffing new things and stopping to watch what is going on – everything is so new to me!

My potty training is going great, I do well when I am on a schedule. I have earned my foster family's trust so I am not kenneled during the day; just at night. My kennel is kept in my foster parents bedroom because I need to be close to them. When I am kenneled during the day or when my people leave me alone I bark – so shared walls might not be the best idea for me. My people are working with me on my separation anxiety; however my foster mom says that I am food motivated and with time and gentle guidance I have great potential to be ok while crated. We are also working on not being so worried when we go on car rides. I get a little anxious so foster mom is helping me with some calming treats while she chauffeurs me around.

I haven’t met any young kids, meow animals or big dogs yet, so I’m not sure how I will react to them.  Oh…  I also need to let you know that if you want to adopt me, you will need a supply of cheese and strawberries…  my favorite treats!  I really can’t wait to meet you, so fill out that application right now!  I think I’m gonna love you!

Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders.  Each animal's bio is based on our experience of the animal within our care, an educated guess based on physical characteristics, temperament and information shared. Some of the animals come from situations where they are lacking experience in a home and confidence in humans. In turn, they require another companion dog and/or a fenced in yard in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a particular dog whose bio states those needs and do not currently have them, please understand that your home might not be the right fit.  Please use the filter on our Adoptable Dogs page to find the perfect match for your home.
