Hi I'm Paska! When I first was rescued I have to say I was terrified of the world. You see, my first year of life was with a breeder and I didn't get much socialization or attention. My foster mama has been teaching me that I can trust and even love people. I follow her around and when she puts me on the couch I cuddle up close to her. When she stops petting me I look back at her like "hey, why did you stop?!" I even find if she sits at the other end of the couch, I will scoot back til I'm touching her. As my confidence grows I find myself trotting around my home and exploring with a smile. When meeting new people and when I'm in a new place I do ask that people take it slow with me. I need a minute to be sure I'm safe. If you're a bit too fast I'll give a quiet growl to let you know you need to slow down a bit and wait for me to be ready. Please don't let this scare you.
Once we get to know each other I love a good scratch to the ears and down my back. I'll give your hands gentle kisses as a thank you and give you smiles in return. I'm working on potty training and I'm getting the hang of it. I'd consider myself as leash training in progress. Currently I have a drag leash on which makes it easier for my mom to catch me. When it's time to come in from outside I make a game of making mom come outside to get me. I jump back a few steps while bowing and she swears I'm laughing at her. I then lay down and she walks over and picks up the leash in two fingers and I just follow her inside. If she stops I sit and look at her with my big smile. When I go outside with my doggie friend you'll see a happy carefree boy who's pouncing around like a puppy and just enjoying life. He doesn't play with me but that's ok because I just enjoy being with him. I do need a confident dog in my future home because they will help me continue learning how to be the good happy boy that is inside me waiting to come out. All I need is someone to be patient and love me.
**Grooming - this dog's coat may have been neglected before arriving at Underdog and it can sometimes take months to get their coat healthy as poodles and poodle mixes require daily brushing. Grooming appointments occur every 3 months and cost on average of $150 per appointment. Adopters should be prepared for such expenses. Underdog Rescue cannot guarantee the non-shedding or hypoallergenic qualities of this dog.
Some of our dogs are obtained from commercial breeders where they spent their lives getting comfort from their canine friends. Others have come from various situations where they are lacking confidence in humans. In turn, most require another companion dog in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a particular dog, and do not currently have a dog residing with you, please understand that your home might not be the right fit for many of our dogs.
