Hi! My name is Shay. I’m a 1 year-old girl who’s a chihuahua mix and weighs about 10 pounds. My foster mommy says I got a big attitude and boy is she right. If you are doing something I don’t want you to be doing, I like to growl to keep you in check! That means no taking away my blanket when I’m trying to sleep and if I don’t know you, I’m not going to be sweet right away. However, if you’re as nice to me as my foster mommy is I promise I will warm up to you! I like to be present in what’s going on in my home, but I also like to take naps in blankets on the floor or on your lap! If you put me on your lap, I want all the attention. If another dog comes up for a pet, I will let them know I don’t want them there by growling, but don’t worry I’m working on my sharing skills! I don’t need to be placed in a furever home with another dog, but I am good with it if you have another one! I also love treats and small toys with those squeaky things in them!
I am not good with young children or being left home alone for to long. I pee on potty pads and if it’s not too cold I like to pee outside. When I first get in my crate for bed, I might be anxious for the first few minutes, but I do calm down quickly! I walk nicely on a leash occasionally but because I don’t do it regularly, I need my furever home to have a fenced backyard. I will gladly listen to my foster mommy when she says “sit”, “come”, and “leave it.” I bark mostly when I’m home alone, alarmed, or when other dogs bark. I am also always respectful to cats. I like to bark at noises so a living situation with shared walls would not be a good match for me!
I’m so glad you are considering me as a new addition to your home. I’m sorry about my sassiness. I always make sure that me and my family are safe and sound. ADOPTION EVENTS:
Adoption events are updated as the foster home RSVP's to attend. Check back for updates on which events they will be attending. Please understand that all of our pets are in volunteer foster homes and sometimes "life" happens and the foster family cannot make it to their scheduled adoption event. If you are traveling from a far distance to meet a specific animal, please understand we cannot guarantee event attendance. You may wish to consider applying and setting up a private appointment. Private appointments are only scheduled after an application is submitted and approved.
ADOPTION PROCEDURE:
FOSTER CARE:
All of our animals are fostered in individual homes or doggie daycare facilities. While they are in our care, they are part of our families and given lots of love. We work on training, crate-training and socialization prior to adoption. Each animal's behavior is evaluated and we have a sense of its temperament and personality. We look for adopters who will give each animal the wonderful life and permanent home that he or she deserves. NUTRITION:
Nutrition is vital to the rehabilitation and life-long health of our pets. All of our foster animals are fed a premium diet such as NutriSource, Canidae, Orijen, Nature's Variety, Fromm, Pure Vita, Stella and Chewy's, Primal, or balanced raw diet. All adopters are required to continue providing premium diets for the life of the animal.
