Welcome to team Cherub! I am the perfect mix of sweet and happy, and known for having a little bed head. I am a 7-year old shih tzu that is happy about nearly everything and learning so much!

I live with other dogs and we all get along great – we chase in the yard, play with toys and do our best to take turns snuggling with our people. The other dogs in my foster home are teaching me so many important things. I wasn’t sure how to play with toys when I arrived but have figured it out quick and know that someday I will conquer the squeaky toy!

My ideal forever home will have another dog for me to learn from – I could use a dog friend to help me gain some confidence, get on a routine and learn how to be social with people. Sometimes I retreat back to my kennel when I want to simply watch what is going on in the house – I don’t even mind if the door is closed. No whining or barking from me! I’ll just lay down and dream about all the new experiences I’ll have with my new people! I am a work-in-progress for potty training and doing fantastic on a routine. A fenced yard is required in my forever home as a reminder to stay in the yard, although we are practicing leash training and I look forward to walks in the neighborhood.

My forever home is also required to have lots and lots of treats, heee heee!  I do like meal time and sometimes help the other dogs in the house clean their plates. My people are good about giving me nutritious kibble and sometimes adding bone broth, fruit or veggies to my bowl. I also like snack time and get so excited I bark to remind them not to forget little tiny me! I have decided what my favorite treats are but am open to test more options in my forever home YUMM YUMM! So far I love fresh rotisserie chicken, some string cheese, and popcorn, which is my favorite! When my people are not looking, I’ll stick my entire face in the popcorn bowl and just pig out. I lose myself in freshly popped popcorn! I’ll admit it’s my catnip!

My people want you to know that I LOVE to be held and have my back scratched – I promise I can teach my forever people how to find the best spots to scritch! I love kids as long as they can be gentle with me at first and let me trust them. I’m still learning how to play, but if they want to love and cuddle and hold me then I’ll most definitely be their best friend. That goes for anyone though!

Finally, about that bed head you may have noticed in my photos. I can’t help it! Some call it shih tzu hair, I call it style. Getting regularly groomed and good nutrition will help.

All I need now is to find a patient forever family who will love me unconditionally, never give up on me and have lots of treats! If you are looking for a sweet, loving, and loyal new bestie than you have just met your perfect match! Love, Cherub

Some of our dogs are obtained from commercial breeders where they spent their lives getting comfort from their canine friends. Others have come from various situations where they are lacking confidence in humans. In turn, most require another companion dog in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a particular dog, and do not currently have a dog residing with you, please understand that your home might not be the right fit for many of our dogs.

ADOPTION EVENTS:

Adoption events are updated as the foster home RSVP's to attend. Check back for updates on which events they will be attending. Please understand that all of our pets are in volunteer foster homes and sometimes "life" happens and the foster family cannot make it to their scheduled adoption event. If you are traveling from a far distance to meet a specific animal, please understand we cannot guarantee event attendance. You may wish to consider applying and setting up a private appointment. Private appointments are only scheduled after an application is submitted and approved.

ADOPTION PROCEDURE:

The first step in our process is to complete an online adoption application on our website:
Note: In most circumstances Underdog Rescue will only adopt within 60 miles of Minneapolis, MN.
All of our foster animals can be seen by appointment with an approved adoption application. Contact us at http://www.underdogrescuemn.com/contact-us/ if you have further questions.

FOSTER CARE:

All of our animals are fostered in individual homes or doggie daycare facilities. While they are in our care, they are part of our families and given lots of love. We work on training, crate-training and socialization prior to adoption. Each animal's behavior is evaluated and we have a sense of its temperament and personality. We look for adopters who will give each animal the wonderful life and permanent home that he or she deserves. If you have an interest and ability to be a foster home, please visit our website  www.underdogrescuemn.com/foster-applications  and fill out a foster application.

NUTRITION:

Nutrition is vital to the rehabilitation and life-long health of our pets.  All of our foster animals are fed a premium diet such as NutriSource, Canidae, Orijen, Nature's Variety, Fromm, Pure Vita, Stella and Chewy's, Primal, or balanced raw diet.  All adopters are required to continue providing premium diets for the life of the animal.
