Hello, my name is Myla, and I am a beautiful adult female Chihuahua. All I want in the world is to be loved unconditionally and showered with affection like my fur sibs, but I am shy and very fearful of almost everything including loud noises, commotion, children, and men. I’m slowly getting better though, and thankfully foster mom has the patience of a saint! She has been wonderful about giving me time and space. I have even stopped retreating to my kennel for safety, now I hang out on the couch with my fur sibs, especially my fur sister with whom I love to cuddle!! In fact, not only am I now brave enough to chill on the couch, but I run into the other room with my sibs before seeking the safety of the couch; allow foster mom to pet me if she gets down on my level, and I even enjoy laying by her head when we’re on the couch watching TV. So, you can clearly see how much mom’s patience and understanding has helped me overcome some of my fears!

I love playing with my soft squeaker toys and barking as I toss them around and shake them. I also love to eat…especially treats. I still will not take food or treats from mom’s hand or eat in her presence, but make no mistake, I will promptly eat them if she puts them down in front of me. Mom says that for such a little dog I have a loud bark which makes me a great watch dog and I will alert her to anything I see outside so my new home should not have any shared walls. I will, however, need to have a fenced yard to keep me safe since I am terrified of almost everything and the leash makes me frantic. Though I have not met any cats, I do well with other like-sized dogs and will need a small companion (preferably female) who can help me learn how to be a dog and overcome some more of my fears. Mom doesn’t need to kennel me because I’m so great about using potty pads even when she’s gone and having free reign of the house has been pretty amazing!

Anyway, despite my fears I am a happy and silly little girl who loves to welcome my family home with a tail wag, and I have an enormous heart that is brimming with love! Now all I need is to find a loving and patient furever family who will help me successfully become the amazing girl I’m destined to be. Please be my new family, I promise I’m worth it and I will love you more than you could ever possibly imagine! Love, Myla

Some of our dogs are obtained from commercial breeders where they spent their lives getting comfort from their canine friends. Others have come from various situations where they are lacking confidence in humans. In turn, most require another companion dog in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a particular dog, and do not currently have a dog residing with you, please understand that your home might not be the right fit for many of our dogs.

Adoption events are updated as the foster home RSVP's to attend. Check back for updates on which events they will be attending. Please understand that all of our pets are in volunteer foster homes and sometimes "life" happens and the foster family cannot make it to their scheduled adoption event. If you are traveling from a far distance to meet a specific animal, please understand we cannot guarantee event attendance. You may wish to consider applying and setting up a private appointment. Private appointments are only scheduled after an application is submitted and approved.

The first step in our process is to complete an online adoption application on our website:
Note: In most circumstances Underdog Rescue will only adopt within 60 miles of Minneapolis, MN.
All of our foster animals can be seen by appointment with an approved adoption application. Contact us at if you have further questions.

All of our animals are fostered in individual homes or doggie daycare facilities. While they are in our care, they are part of our families and given lots of love. We work on training, crate-training and socialization prior to adoption. Each animal's behavior is evaluated and we have a sense of its temperament and personality. We look for adopters who will give each animal the wonderful life and permanent home that he or she deserves. If you have an interest and ability to be a foster home, please visit our website  and fill out a foster application.

Nutrition is vital to the rehabilitation and life-long health of our pets.  All of our foster animals are fed a premium diet such as NutriSource, Canidae, Orijen, Nature's Variety, Fromm, Pure Vita, Stella and Chewy's, Primal, or balanced raw diet.  All adopters are required to continue providing premium diets for the life of the animal.
