Hello, my name is Galleta, and I am a very handsome and loving 50 pound adult male who recently moved to Minnesota from Texas. When I first got here, I had to take some medication for this thing called Heartworm…thankfully that’s gone and now foster mom and I are tackling the serious mobility issue I have. You see, I have a malformed disc in my spine and although I do have feeling in my back legs, I don’t know how to use them yet, so I get around by dragging them behind me. Luckily, my amazing foster mom got me started in rehab and my doctor thinks that with some intensive therapy I may be able to learn to walk… that would really be awesome…HOWEVER, I want everyone I meet to know that I do not allow my disability to get me down or have a negative impact on my outlook on life or my ability to enjoy it. I even have my own version of fetch…truth be told, I don’t always bring the ball or toy back but HEY we’re in this together so why should I be the one to do all work…I’m just sayin’!!
Now I do not know much about my heritage, but I believe that I may be part Shepherd and cattle dog. That said, I like to think of myself more as a Heinz 57 type who identifies with everyone!! I admit that I’m a bit shy around new people but once I warm up to you the lovefest never ends…let’s just say you HAVE been warned! Hee, hee! I LOVE playing with sturdy toys that can withstand my roughhousing ways; getting as many pets and loves as I possibly can; and giving kisses. By the way, it MUST be said, that I give the best kisses in the world paws down!
I get along with kids and other medium-sized dogs, but I do have a high prey drive so cats are not a good fit for me. I can also be a bit possessive of anything I believe to be mine, especially food like fruits and veggies! As a matter of fact, I have not encountered a food or treat that I have not loved, and mom has found that little tidbit useful when she’s helping me with my stretches and exercises.
Foster mom and I are working on potty training and with a solid schedule I’m sure I’ll get it. I know what “kennel/crate” means and I am crate trained. As for the leash, since I don’t use my back legs, I am rarely on the leash but when I am, mom uses a special thing she calls a “helper harness.” Hopefully my new home will have a fenced yard where I know I will be safe! Though I wouldn’t say I do it a LOT, I suppose I should let you know that I sometimes like to speak for no specific reason. I guess I like to keep my peeps on their toes, maybe I’m just saying “Hello” or “I love you” or maybe I just want to hear myself talk!!
Anyway, mom says that I am “such a sweet bundle of love” and she could not be more spot on. All I need now is to find the furever home that I so richly deserve. One filled with unconditional love and patience with a strong pack leader and someone who will help me with rehab and keep me safe. Something in my soul tells me that you are my dream family, and I would love more than anything to begin my life with you!! Hopefully you will bring me home soon!! Love and best kisses EVER, Galleta!
Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders. Each animal's bio is based on our experience of the animal within our care, an educated guess based on physical characteristics, temperament and information shared. Some of the animals come from situations where they are lacking experience in a home and confidence in humans. In turn, they require another companion dog and/or a fenced in yard in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a particular dog whose bio states those needs and do not currently have them, please understand that your home might not be the right fit. Please use the filter on our Adoptable Dogs page to find the perfect match for your home.
